Following our lunchtime keynote speakers of the past, including then Pro Publica social media editor Daniel Victor and then Wall Street Journal engagement editor Zach Seward, this year we’ll hear about new platforms for content from Tumblr Executive Editor Jessica Bennett.
Bennett is coming thanks to coordination and support from Temple’s Dept. of Journalism.
Jessica Bennett is a writer and editor focused on socials issues, culture and new media. She is the executive editor of Tumblr, where she oversees original feature content as part of a new initiative to tell the stories of the platform.
She has also written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, Newsweek and The Daily Beast, where she is a contributing editor. Bennett spent the first seven years of her career at Newsweek, where she was a reporter, editor, and ultimately senior writer, focused on feature packages and special reports on on social issues, culture and gender. She has written on young women and marriage, online bullying, gay rights, and was the co-author of a cover story about sexism in the media that marked the 40th anniversary of a landmark gender discrimination suit against Newsweek. A native of Seattle, Jessica’s work has been honored by the Society for Professional Journalists, the Newswomen’s Club of New York and the New York Press Club, which named her the city’s best young journalist.
